Live Art Community Celebrations

Burning Texan Clock Tower for New Year's Eve

A burning resolution clock created by the folks at Community Art Makers in Austin, Texas provided revelers quite the show on New Year’s Eve. First they painstakingly built the beautiful 34-foot functioning clock tower out of wood. Then they invited the locals--and whomever else who wanted to attend--to attach memos of their resolutions for the upcoming year to the structure.

Finally, at about 8 PM, they set the whole darn thing on fire in a blaze of flame and exploding fireworks!

Sounds like one fun Texan whoop-up!

One of the organizers of the event explains, “Our pieces are intentionally massive and intricate - it takes a dedicated team to build them. Upon their destruction, what is left are the skills we have garnered and the relationships we’ve built, the community we have created - and that is the real art.”
