A deaf charity in the UK, the RNID, has asked launched a competition for budding designers aiming to find a fashionable ear plug. Will such thing ever exist I can't help but wonder?

The statistic that started the campaign came from their research that showed 90 percent of young clubbers have experienced some level of hearing damage. Somewhat randomly and ambitiously, the RNID compares using earplugs to wearing a condom for sex, or putting on sun cream or a bike helmet. The winning designers of the competition will get internships with firms. The ultimate aim putting their earplugs into production.
