Knitted Electromagnetic Shields

Appliance Shields Help EM Sensitive Individuals

Zoe Papadopoulou at the Royal Academy of Art has developed this novel idea to help those who believe they are sensitive to electromagnetic fields. Mr. Papadopoulou is making shields that fit over and around electric appliances from yarn that contains copper fibers. The copper fibers theoretically act like a type of Faraday cage to limit the emission of electromagnetic fields. Considering the fields that are intentionally emitted from cell phones, WiFi routers, and the like are probably more prevalent than the stray fields emitted from appliances, I'm not sure how effective these shields would be. I guess it could be argued by those that are affected that "every little bit helps".
