“When touching the red areas on your Hug Shirt your mobile phone receives the sensors data via Bluetooth (hug pressure, skin temperature, heartbeat rate, time you are hugging for, etc) and then delivers it to the other person,” CuteCircuit explained.

And yes, it can be washed; the tech pads are removable, so you won’t be forced to wear the same grubby shirt day and night for fear of missing a love burst. They shirts are available in a range of colours too, so all you have to do is move the sensor pads from one to the next when you want to switch up your style.
