In a highly irresponsible move, a Texas Hold ‘Em game was released for Game Boy Advance. Game Boy is primarily targeted at young kids and this is just another example of how addictive behaviour is not only encouraged but even promoted by marketers intent on cashing in on the poker craze, regardless of the negative impact they have on kids lives.
Naysayers may say “It’s just a game” but according to a recent study most teens have engaged in real online gambling and many are becoming addicted and getting themselves into serious financial trouble.
Do kids gamble? The National Research Council (NRC) suggests that not only do most adolescents gamble, but also that they've gambled recently. The most common types of gambling for kids are reported to be card games and sports betting. But increasingly, parents of teens are concerned that their kids may be gambling on the Internet, where many game operators are operating from servers outside the U.S. - beyond the jurisdiction of state or federal regulations about the hours of operation, the age of the participants, or the type of game offered.
