Homeless Haute Couture

Steven Meisel Snaps Shabby-Chic in 'Performance' for Vogue Italia (UPDATE)

Famed fashion photographer Steven Meisel shows off Karl Templer's homeless styling in the September 2009 issue of Vogue Italia. The editorial, called “Performance,” captures a bevy of disheveled looking male and female paupers clowning around for the camera.

The models featured in the shabby-chic photos are Anna Jagodzinska, Ash Stymest, Christian Brylle, Coco Rocha, Jamie Bochert, Max Rogers, Meghan Collison, Sasha Pivovarova, Sessile Lopez, Simon Nessman, Viktoriya Sosonkina, and Will Lewis.

Implications - The recent recession prompted budget-conscious consumers to make more affordable purchases at thrift and vintage stores. This led to a surge of grunge fashions in the marketplace which consumers appreciate for their comfort and nonchalant, chic look. Companies can appeal to fashionable demographics by incorporating these qualities into their product designs.
