‘Pirate Hunters: USN' Is Timely With Hype Over Somali Pirates

After shocking news of hijackings by Somali pirates, it seems the pirate theme continues to be big in the media. The recent hostage taking and violent rescue of Captain Richard Phillips from Somali pirates has intensified the usual light-hearted and sometimes comedic portrayal of pirates, and has morphed it into a harsh reality.

With audiences craving the next source of reality programming, a new pirate reality show is born, and couldn’t come at a better time. Spike TV and 44 Blue Productions have been in negotiations with the U.S Navy for months. They intend to get footage of real warships searching for real pirates. ‘Pirate Hunters: USN’ should air in the fall, and if successful, could end up as a SPIKE mini-series.

Will the Somali pirates be part of this show? You’ll have to wait and find out.
