In 2007, inspired by Kenyan Wangari Maathai, nine-year-old Felix Finkbeiner made an English language presentation to his classmates of his idea to plant one million trees in Germany. Finkbeinger ended his presentation with the words, “Let’s plant a million trees in every country of the world,” and the Plant for the Planet movement was born.
Plant for the Planet has a target goal of planting 212 million trees worldwide. So far they have planted just over a million trees with about 1.4 million more pledged for planting.
