Paul Schneggenburger's The Sleep of the Beloved Series is Clouded

Paul Schneggenburger's The Sleep of the Beloved collection displays his subjects in a literal cloud of entanglement. As the title suggests, he focuses solely on couples while blurring their features, making it appear as if the men and the women displayed are combined as one.

Schneggenburger is a German photographer. The intimate nature of his images stem from the backdrop as he shoots his models within his own apartment. Many of these sessions often last for 6 hours from midnight until early morning, enabling the groups to get close with one another.

Lights, sheets and candles are also incorporated. These props respond to his preoccupation with sleep as he asks, "What happens to lovers while they are sleeping? Is it a nocturnal lovers’ dance... or does one turn their back on each other?"
