Z58 is building about phenomena rather than form. What I mean by this is form falls away, and the characteristics of nature is what makes the builfing special. For instance, the building is wrapped in horizontal planters, so a lush green barrier has grown between the inside and outside world. The barrier is only a foot deep, but the effect from the inside is that you are in a secluded forest. On the top floor of the building, Kuma has created a guest residence that is surrounded by a glassy water moat. Again, the effect is this complete disconnect with the hectic world of Shanghai.
