Almost everyone has had an experience of excess acid gurgling up from the stomach. Yet this problem called ‘acid reflux’ can be severe and even lead to a precancerous condition called Barrett’s Esophagus if left unchecked.
The LINX system provides a minimally invasive means of controlling acid reflux by implanting a collar of magnetic beads around the sphincter at the entrance of the stomach.
Great idea, but I would be leery about the possibility of the beads eroding the esophagus from the outside in. I'm looking forward to upcoming clinical studies to confirm if this will be a problem.
