Cage-Free States

Governor Schwarzenegger Signs Proposition 2 to Include Eggs

Today is a landmark in animal welfare legislation, as Governor Schwarzenegger signs Proposition 2 to include eggs. The legislation means that all eggs sold in California must come from hens who have enough room to stand and stretch without touching another hen or the sides of their cage. The term ‘cage-free’ is a bit of a hoax, since the hens will certainly still be kept in cages, but they will be roomier.

Let’s hope that this movie by Governor Schwarzenegger encourages other states to follow in the same right.
