Urban Bamboo Shelters

The Bug Dome by WEAK! Architects

The Shenzhen and Hong Kong bi-city Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture has brought to light some pretty unique and amazing designs, and this Bug Dome by WEAK! architects is one of them.

Inspired by insects and situated in between the Shenzhen City Hall and an illegal workers camp, the Bug Dome by WEAK! is a shelter made out of flexible bamboo by designers Marco Casagrande, Hsieh Ying-Chun and Roan Ching-Yueh. Included inside the structure is a stage for music, poetry readings, and karaoke. Interestingly enough, the designers say, “After the Biennale the Bug Dome will act as an un-official social club for illegal workers from the Chinese countryside.”
