The Asia David Guttenfelder Instagram Image Posts Are Novel

Asia David Guttenfelder's Instagram images of North Korea are the first of their kind to be geographically situated from within the country. The Associated Press Chief Photographer geo-tagged each one of his posts via pictures taken with his iPod and iPhone, a tool that had never been used prior to Guttenfelder.

These geo-tagging features were applied by way of service provider Koryolink. In the past, Guttenfelder could only tag the area or place he was in by tethering his iPhone or iPod to a laptop connected to a hotspot, giving way to a time consuming process. These photos of Pyongyang were instead broadcasted instantaneously, providing a window to his journeys throughout the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
