Although the story was supressed for some time, a 9 year old recently gave birth to a baby in Singapore to the horror of her parents. This seems to be a recurring trend since news of another little 9 year old girl giving birth, this time in Brazil,  hit the news in the summer of 2006.

Although cultural differences do exist and social norms vary, the abuse of young girls seems to be a growing problem across the globe, and unfortunately, this abuse occurs at the hands of close family members, friends and other adults in positions of authority.
