Walden Pond Wood Piano

Those beautiful trees that grew around the famous Walden Pond make for one beautiful piano. You don't think they cut down the trees around Walden Pond, do you? They didn't. Wood that had fallen naturally around the area of the historic pond in Massachusetts was used for the marquetry wood art on the piano.

Steinway and Sons made this one-of-a-kind piano to for two charities: Walden Woods Project and American Forests.

The legs are shaped as inverted arches that describe Walden Pond and Henry David Thoreau's quote: "I went to the woods to live deliberately..." is engraved in the rim of the piano. Elton John, Dave Brubeck, Herbie Hancock, Bruce Hornsby and Billy Joel have already played this piano. The piano is expected to sell for $500,000.
