SMS Controlled UFOs

Untitled (UFO) with 3,000 LEDs

What a way to celebrate the 4th of July! New York artist Peter Coffin collaborated with London-based Cinimod Studio, on this awesome, 7-meter UFO-ish piece of art that is remotely controlled via SMS. The aluminum structure was covered with 3,000 bright, individually controllable Color Kinetics LED lights. The UFO drew its power from a built-in 6kW generator.

The UFO made its debut on 4th July 2008 as a part of the Gdansk Festival of Stars in Poland.

Implications - Bringing this UFO to fruition was not easy. Clinimod Studio worked closely with a variety of specialist suppliers, and they monitored the progress of the UFO through regular workshop visits.

Judging from the video -- job well done.
