Italian Antique Art Design brand HillsideOut created a limited edition furniture collection, entitled Slide-Furniture, that unites Italian craftsmanship, industrial design and modern storytelling.
The Slide-Furniture pieces are developed around a neglected, almost extinct object of the 80's, photographic slides. The Slide-Wall-Lights, Slide-Shelves, Slide-Tables, Slide-Bookshelves and Slide-Wardrobes developed by HillsideOut and exhibited during the 2012 Milan Design Week, create a unique retro feel by using antiquated design elements for its pieces: handcrafted chestnut wood to create the basic furniture, stainless steel, led glass and plexiglass to create the retro-illuminated place for the photographic slides.
However the last touch, the story told by the furniture, needs to be added by the future owner of the Slide-Furniture piece.
The HillsideOut Slide-Furniture series and prototypes were developed specifically for the Salone Satellite 2012 exhibition.
Implications - The Slide-Furniture pieces show how creative, modern and relevant contemporary storytelling can be even when all the design ingredients of a project are 100% retro. Nostalgia and pride of the past defines today’s adult consumers’ self-perception and self-expression.
