Rustic Sustainable Cottages
Portland Garden Cottages Incorporate Found Materials

By: Katie Cordrey (Rockstar) Nov 1, 09
{SummaryTitle}

Self-taught designer builders Jeffrey Gantert and Brad Bloom turned an empty lot in Portland, Oregon into extra income by building two tiny cottages from mostly salvaged materials. Thirteen-foot ceilings help create a sense of spaciousness in the 364 square-foot green structures. The cottages are located in the historic Albina neighborhood’s Mississippi Conservation District.

The two Portland garden cottages are nestled among Victorian and Craftsman homes built at the turn of the twentieth century so include decorative features that mimic their neighbors. Rent is about $1,000 per month each.
