Solar Powered Racetracks

Pocono Raceway is World's Largest Sun-Run Sports Stadium

Pocono Raceway is seeing green and it’s not just the green flag. The NASCAR racetrack flipped the switch this weekend on its 3 megawatt solar energy system. The 25 acre solar farm makes Pocono Raceway the home of the world’s largest major "renewable energy project for a sports facility."

The 2.5 mile long racetrack is located in sunny Pocono Pennsylvania and as NASCAR Chairman Brian France noted, “We encourage other tracks and sponsors to follow this lead in making sustainable programs and renewable energy a continued priority for the sport.”

NASCAR has plenty of opposers to car racing, sighting the negative impacts of its gas and tire usage, but perhaps Pocono Raceway's green initiatives will shine a favourable light on the sport.
