LAST Wooden Toys by Nicolo Bottarelli Combines Play and Awareness

From his shop in Italy, Nicolo Bottarelli created a series of beautifully hand-carved wooden toys depicting several animals that are now extinct. The project, called LAST Wooden Toys, is aimed towards creating awareness amongst children regarding the unethical practices carried out worldwide that exact harmful impacts on the environment and biodiversity.

DODO, TILACINO and BAIJI are the three models available in this collection and represent the animals that are already or will soon be extinct if current patterns persist.

The wooden sculptures are all made in an eco-friendly manner, drawing attention to the harmful impacts that cheap plastics and material (often used for modern children's toys) have on the environment. LAST Wooden Toys are an homage to the traditional form of children's toys, when objects encouraged creativity and interaction and did not come at the cost of earth's natural fauna.
