The iconic fireman's pole has been manufactured and installed en masse in the Minnesota Fallen Firefighters Memorial. Located in the Saint Paul State Capitol Grounds, the large-scale statue reminds members of the public of the sacrifices made by the community's courageous rescuers.
LEO A DALY's structure comprises a concrete platform that lies flush with the lawns that surround it. Parallel to this is a thick roof plane that features one large and several small circular holes. The biggest opening is in the center of the installation, providing a window for people to view the sky above. This was inspired by the second-floor portal in a fire station, through which firefighters descend by means of a pole.
Each of the 86 rusting columns represents a rescuer lost on the job. A sculpture in the middle of a man with a helpless child is a symbol of invaluable assistance.
