Well, they’ve done it. Robots have figured out how to play without us. This video shows how one artificial intelligence generates an infinite variation of Mario Bros. levels, while a second AI plays along. We are invited only to watch, and that’s if we can keep up!

Although this may be an ominous sign of a human-free robot future, it actually has a nostalgic appeal to the human observer. It is rather hypnotizing to watch Mario jump and swerve to avoid Bullet Bills, Koopa Troopas, and the unsuspecting little Goombas. 

I say, let the robots show off a little. We’re the ones who get to enjoy the thrill of rescuing the Princess from King Bowser. Nobody, and no bot, can take that away from us.
