Rattan is a common material used for furniture because it is not only a renewable resource, it is affordable, durable and weatherproof; the Frontal Family Collection reworked its traditional aesthetic for something fit for modern societies. It is comprised of minimalist chairs that sport clean and curvy lines.
Created by famed designer Oscar Tusquets Blanca in collaboration with Spanish furniture maker Expormim, the Frontal Family Collection was recently launched at Feria Habitat Valencia 2012. Blanca reveals, “The project was born from the desire to take back rattan as a noble material, building on the rich tradition of craftsmanship in our country that supports its use.” By substituting the traditional strutting and joint wrapping for a twinning technique to join one reed to the next, they achieved just that.
