Qatar-based artist Fatima Al-Kharaz has created a series of leafy masks that are not what they appear to be. This is owed as much to their crisp, carved outlines as to the way Al-Kharaz has molded the leather from which they are made into surprisingly realistic leaf-like textures. The illusion the masks create is a fitting quality for what are essentially disguises.
Beyond their foliage-inspired shapes, the masks are evidently inspired by their predecessors, as found in old costume parties and masquerade balls. Indeed, these leafy disguises are of a higher quality than a children's Halloween outfit. Al-Kharaz clearly dedicated much effort and talent to creating these foliage-inspired creations. Hopefully she will continue to create similar works.
