Fake Street Signs as Public Art
Panos 2013

{SummaryTitle}

In Lyons, France, artists from all over the world are given the chance to showcase their art for a new project called Panos 2013 in a unique gallery—the streets of the city.

The art project has clear elements of surreptitiousness. After all, when most of us see a red and white round sign hanging from a streetlight, we assume we are looking at some form of a traffic sign. It’s certainly provocative to look at one of these images from Panos 2013 and realize that it is art, not an official city sign.

While certainly subversive, the Panos 2013 project has a tangible purpose: Lyon, France is vying for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2013. Check out the video for an installation of some of the signs.
