Smoldering Train Stations
The Anisotropic by Handan Yalki Takes its Form from Curling Flames

By: Amelia Roblin (Superstar) Dec 6, 12
{SummaryTitle}

What better way to assert the imagination and innovation of a city than to erect a spectacular new transit terminal to impress out-of-towners. The Anisotropic by Handan Yalki is a proposal to improve upon Vienna’s Westbahnhof Station with an original and monumental design.

Inspired by the dynamism of fire with its sharp licking flames, the postgraduate student conceived a complex mass of curling, swirling and meandering materials that give the building its structure and dictate the interior program and circulation. Fantastical twisting features, both thickset and thin, give the project elaborate and whimsical detail that can be appreciated both inside and out. The Excessive III Anisotropic by Handan Yalki is avant-garde architecture that would be sure to astonish on an international scale.
