Probably the smartest thing to do when designing a toy is to have a child draw for you exactly what he or she wants. The Alexa Lixfeld dolls shown here were created from adapting drawings by children and are a collaboration between the designer herself and Sri Lankan company Selyn.
The drawings were made by children from the Royal International School in Kurunegala, Sri Lanka. Lixfeld transformed those drawings into dolls of the same scale using hand-dyed and hand-woven cotton obtained from local women. The Alexa Lixfeld dolls were made to raise funds for Lixfeld’s own charitable foundation, which hopes to improve education for local children and employment opportunities for local women.
