Stabbed Ceramic Sculptures

Laurent Craste Combines Delicate Ceramics, Heavy Tools and Force

Montreal artist Laurent Craste's contemporary sculpture series shows delicate urns, vases and teacups attacked with heavy tools such as axes, crowbars and knives. However, the china is not smashed to pieces, as is usually the case when you combine delicate ceramics, metal objects and force.

Instead, Laurent Craste's pieces are hit before they are fired in the kiln, resulting in the "weapon" embedded in the delicate ceramic piece.

Implications - The rebellious ceramics look like they each have their own personalities. Some even end up like little creatures with arms and faces. Laurent Craste's artworks definitely cross a strong line and gives the viewer a lot to think about. The unique pieces would make great conversation starters.
