Mandatory Environmental Education

Taiwan to Require Classes on Protecting the Planet

Taiwan has enacted mandatory environmental education. Beginning in 2011, students will have to take classes on environmental protection. An annual minimum of four hours of instruction on environmental protection will be required for every Taiwanese citizen.

Taiwan's President Ma Ying-jeou signed the Environmental Education Act legislation into law in May and in doing so, officially enacted mandatory environmental education for Taiwanese schools, businesses and organizations.

Implications - The featured video by Planet 100 tells you a bit about this new law and offers up some gorgeous pictures of the island. It's no wonder that the people of Taiwan want to protect their beautiful homes. The government of Taiwan will be starting a fund for the new environmental learning program, finding appropriate educators and building a website so that the public can learn about the new classes.
