The 'Share' Trash Can Compares Social Networking to Dispensing Trash

While I still don’t quite understand the reasoning behind this design, the concept of the ‘Share’ trash can is nonetheless compelling.

Designed by Burak Kaynak, the Share trash can was inspired by the ‘sharing’ of information and content via the ‘share’ button on social media sites like Facebook. The Share trash can has a foot pedal-activated lid that is connected to an LED display. The display is a live counter that tabulates the number of times the foot pedal is stepped on. While I can’t be sure, I’m assuming the Share trash can is some sort of metaphor for the frequency in which Internet users share their content (‘trash’) on social media sites. What do you think?
