Mind-Reading Machines

Scientists Discover a Method of Revealing What You Have Seen

Scientists are one step closer to being able to read your brain by creating mind-reading machines. Having modeled how images are represented in the brain, researchers were able to translate recorded patterns of neural activity into pictures of what test subjects had seen.

The current mind-reading machines are actually fMRI machines that scientists use to track neural activity in the brain. The machine then develops a fairly complete view of the brain’s visual centers which results in something similar to reconstruction rather than identification. The research could someday lead to dream-readers and thought-controlled computers though researchers say that practical applications of this technology are decades away.
