Bamboo Pods for the Bashful

Be Seen Without Seeing in Voirin's Shy Chair

French designer Emilie Voirin has created a set of furniture pieces out of rattan (similar to bamboo) entitled ‘Made in China.’ Among these pieces is a chair which features an odd protruding awning over the sitter’s head.

Emilie Voirin’s shy chair is actually titled ‘Emanuelle is Shy.’ It basically looks like something you would sit in if you wanted to hide your face, which is pretty much the idea Voirin was going for--apparently a “being seen without seeing” theme.

In addition to Emilie Voirin's shy chair, a few normal-looking pieces are included in her ‘Made in China’ collection, including a chair that resembles the iconic Panton Chair (a design created by Verner Pantonn in 1960).
