The Maneki Neko, known for Europeans and Americans as the Lucky or Fortune Cat, is a common Japanese figure, believed to bring good fortune to its owner. But for the Romanian artist Silly Conductor, the Maneki Neko cat was actually the means used for creating music.
Having as starting point the "Poème Symphonique For 100 Metronomes" by György Ligeti, he built up a music installation during an experimental music event with 60 Maneki Neko cats and glasses.
Ligeti created the track using 100 metronomes but the Romanian artist recreated the experiment with the Japanese Cats. This art installation represents a unique approach to creating sounds and how music can be created using natural sounds made out from our environment.
