Light Pulsing Bassinets

Natalie Keville's 'Bloom' Visually Displays Baby's Breathing

The motion-sensitive ‘Bloom’ baby bassinet was designed by Natalie Keville, an industrial and product designer based in Ireland.

One of the aims of the ‘Bloom’ bassinet is to foster synchronized sleep cycles for infants and parents by placing the two in close proximity. The bedside stand converts into a rocker to facilitate interaction during non-sleep times. An extending stand elevates the bassinet so it can be used as a chair or short-term parking station for baby as the child grows.

Environmentally friendly EVA foam and thermoplastic elastomer skin are used in the construction. Sensors respond to breathing movements and activate pulsing illumination intended to reassure, calm, and sooth both parent and child. The illumination can be set to a slow pulse, a steady glow, or turned off completely depending upon the user’s preference.
