'Leaf Leather' by C.L. Whiting captures the likeness of various leaves by etching each vein onto a hand-stamping tool which she uses to imprint the leather of her bags, wallets, checkbook covers, and other items. Each leaf, flower or stem shape, is an individual tool. Hundreds of tools are needed to complete a leaf pattern design.
An entire leather hide acts as a canvas. The designs are hammered into place to create a foliage ‘painting.’ Once complete, the stamped design is hand-rubbed with several dye coats to create depth and character in the embossed composition. Finish coats protect the work.
