The Achilles Project is an innovative mix of retail boutique, bar/restaurant/lounge and art gallery located in the Fort Point Channel District of Boston.

When most of us think of mixed-use developments, we think of separate establishments on the same floor or on different floors within a larger site. The Achilles Project combines its three facets into one giant warehouse. Architects 3Six0, who are also the minds behind the transforming restaurant below, have employed similar shape-shifting designs to facilitate this variety.

Merchandise cases set atop steel rails roll open and closed during retail hours; after the boutique has closed, the empty space turns into an extended portion of the bar area. For the restaurant, small tables are grouped along rails and can slide to accommodate 2-18 guests at a time.
