Created by artist Bob Turek as part of his object remix series--a project that is focused on transforming the way we view the objects we make music with--Turek’s view of the stereo is that it “forces the music source into the center of attention and creates a radically new user interface.”
It’s easy to see how this headless, armless and legless fiberglass woman, whose breasts and vagina are being used to provide power and sound, would lead feminists to accuse Turek of using the female body as ‘an object.’ However, the fact that the source of the power is the woman’s vagina makes a poignant statement about power.
