Once known as the land of cuckoo clocks, Switzerland continues to host a plethora of talented modern designers, and again we witness a return to classic craftsmanship with these local artisan pieces. Swiss design company Pour les Alpes’ newest line is called “Echos.” In collaboration with designers Tina Stieger and Annina Gaehwiller, local artisans from the Swiss Alps have produced these limited-edition useful yet artistic pieces.
The “Neugierde” is a unique take on a storage table that is made from hand-cut spruce shingles using a local technique for roofing, and its interior is painted a bright, eye-catching red.
The “Ehrfurcht” ebony stand opens to reveal a piece of hand-carved Swiss pine.
The final piece, “Sehnsucht,” is a chestnut storage stand with drawers sweetly embellished with hand-woven lace embedded in a fiberglass panel.
“In a time of global mass production we consider the need for individual products as essential,” the designers said.
