Greening Train Stations

Birmingham's New Street Station

Birmingham, England is taking the job of greening up their mass transit train system stations. Most recently, the New Street Station began undergoing a wonderful transformation. The focal point of the environmentally-friendly station is an atrium which is surrounded by retail shops, yet also allows direct connection to trains. A bridge and escalators help organize the levels and the huge roof mirrors the floor, allowing for a gigantic open space.

Implications - The new Street Station template is an example of the new world we live in. City planners must heavily vet all new designs for its environmentally friendly contents. Architectural developments like this bode well for the future.
