Although it is not fashionable to smoke anymore, I love the way the designer puts his spin on what would seem to be a complete anomaly of an object.
The Charcoal Ashtray, designed by Akihiro Kumagaya for Sumizara, sounds very cool when he describes it.
“When the wood is char-grilled, the shape is not the same and they can put out cigarettes and deodorizes it,” Kumagaya says.
“In addition, it is coated by a ‘coat of charcoal’ which has an antiseptic and dust control action. This is also burn-resistance and deodorant.”
Isn’t charcoal already burned wood? Oh, excuse me, not burned, char-grilled, like for the BBQ?
Fascinating concept, and if you really must smoke, at least you have a stylish place to flick your ashes, not in some macabre version of a head or a mouth!
