Creepy Clown-Like Caricatures (UPDATE)

Guim Tio Zarraluki's New Portraits are Eerily Hypnotic

At first glance, the new portraits from artist Guim Tio Zarraluki's 'Taiwan' series appear to be painted abstract works of fictional subjects. Upon closer inspection, it's clear that Zarraluki's works combine the medium of paint and photography to drastically alter the subjects' features, creating emotionally stunning abstract portraits.

Zarraluki maintains some features of his subjects in each work, such as noses, ears and eyes, but does not hesitate to outline or highlight these features with vibrant oranges, reds and greens. These vibrant, smudged colors give each face a clown-like appearance.

Certain body parts are consistently stretched out of shape in Zarraluki's new portraits, necks in particular. Each of his portraits features a man or a woman with a grotesquely long neck reaching inhuman heights.
