Wire Shadow Structures

Larry Kagan Creates Figures Out of Twisted Bits of Metal

Artist Larry Kagan's wire structures give off the appearance of various shapes by way of shadows. When light hits the wires at precise angles, viewers get to take in airplanes, maps of the world, eagles, coffee cups, bugs and chairs.

These familiar objects literally shine through Kagan's work with precision. Although shadows, they nonetheless relay exact replicas of that which he aims to depict.

He maintains a strident interest in his chosen art medium, "My challenge was to induce viewers to actually look at the shadow rather than solely at the steel. I began shifting more of the narrative burden to shadow." This stands in direct contrast to most who simply pass by shadows without much thought.
