'Artifacts and Incidents' Portrays Human Impact on the Environment

In her image series titled 'Artifacts and Incidents,' photographer Nicole Jean Hill takes a critical look at the disruption of human impact on the environment.

Hill takes scenic photos that showcase the natural landscape, however they are interrupted by the trash and destruction left behind by people. Focusing on areas that are considered neither public nor private spaces, Hill analyzes how there is a sense of both "autonomy and lawlessness" in these lands that lie along country roads and greenbelt zones. Activities that many people think are harmless, like spray painting rocks or leaving a few beers at a campfire, actually disrupt the natural environment.

By observing the contrasts between nature and the remnants of human impact on the environment, perhaps this series will deter more needless destruction in the future.
