Animated Anti-Bullying Poetry

Shane Koyczan’s ‘To This Day’ is a Haunting Bullyi

When people look at bullying, its common to only look at the immediate cause and effects of the bullying, a perspective that Shane Koyczan’s ‘To This Day’ video aims to change.

This powerful, haunting and beautifully animated short film gives a new perspective on bullying, especially the long term effects that can stretch for decades. Narrated by Koyczan, ‘To This Day’ explores Koyczan’s own experiences with bullying as well as others he grew up with, including the heart-breaking story of a mother that has never been able to accept her own personal beauty because of elementary school bullying. Koyczan explores the issues using beautifully flowing and carefully constructed prose. You can hear the pain that only comes from experience in his voice as he tells these tales of woe from the perspective of childhood innocence.

To This Day, which only runs seven minutes long and is available on YouTube, will likely be shown in classrooms everywhere.
