Chris Chamberlain's Jewel of the Universe map features 1,238 intricately placed jewels and 6,900 LED lights, enabling the installation to shine much like the earth.
Jewel of the Universe took the artist a considerable amount of time to produce. The sprawling installation comes of 27 months worth of work, clocked on behalf of Chamberlain at approximately 3,500 hours.
To get this mesmerizing assortment of colors across, Chamberlain included bits of amethyst, diamond, emerald, iolite, peridot, ruby, sapphire and tanzanite amongst other elements, driving up the value of the piece. The expensive materials were also laid out according to region, with rubies demarcating the holy points of Jerusalem and Mecca and turquoise rocks marking the Ganges river.
