I bet you cannot discern even a hint of Working Blue's interior program by scrutinizing its exterior. The abstract and iridescent purple structure seems to have been composed through the impossible remodeling of long corridors into once-rectangular prisms that now bend, turn and even project directly towards the sky.
Dale Strong's project does, however, make sense on the inside. While the curious forms do affect the usable spaces indoors, the building's sectional diagrams reveal a familiar organization by logical floor levels, occasionally breaking off to form mezzanines.
Proposed as a neighbor to the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Working Blue asserts itself as a whimsical and contemporary edifice, standing in great contrast to the classical and rational structures that surround it.
