One of the most trying and important responsibilities of a concentration camp survivor is to make sure history isn’t forgotten through holocaust testimonies.
Unfortunately, an entire generation of holocaust survivors is aging and dying of old age, which used to mean that their tales would be lost to the sands of time. A fascinating project from the University of Southern California’s Shoah Foundation is holographically capturing holocaust testimonies from real survivors, of which there are thought to only be around 500,000 left in the world. The testimonies can then be projected for viewers to not only educate, but forever preserve the emotion and human touch of one of history’s darkest moments.
The ‘New Dimensions in Testimony’ project has been in the works for roughly 18 months and the end goal is to have the 3D projections available world-wide in museums and memorials.
