South African Youth Get Their Front Teeth Removed for Style

In Cape Town, South Africa, it is stylish for youth to get their front teeth removed, leaving a big tooth gap.

Originally, as the locals explain, this tradition started with fishermen who removed their teeth to be able to whistle to other boats and communicate with each other. Now it has become a fashion statement amongst the youth, even children as young as 11. Metropolis TV went to Cape Town to record the smiles on video and ask what people thought about their teeth. Many did it because they find it cool and attractive, demonstrating that nothing is too extreme once it becomes popular.

As of yet it is only trendy in South Africa to have front teeth removed, but perhaps it will travel to North America.
