Layered City Snapshots

The Laurent Dequick Vibrations Urbaines Series is Coated

The Laurent Dequick Vibrations Urbaines layers pictures of New York and Berlin upon one another. The French photographer took fleeting second-long snapshots of the cities, allowing viewers to get a sense of just how fast paced the regions are.

Dequick has interestingly enough captured movement despite the still life nature of her work. While her images are set in place, the multitude of coating adds elements of motion to each part of the Vibrations Urbaines series. Dequick remains concerned with the metropolis as opposed to the overall look of her pieces however as she describes the collection as being "primarily a reflection on the contemporary city and more specifically the proliferation of modern urban space." She has in this way provided an intense look at current streets, advertisements and skyscrapers.
